April 27-30, 2013 – Stage 6, Coral Sand Dunes SP to The Grand Canyon NP, 4 hours
“Holy Crap! We are at the Grand Canyon! Five-hour hike and our tootsies are cooked!”
Yet another amazing drive, this time a wee bit longer, four+ hours to be imprecise. We approached the Grand Canyon from the east so we followed the fissure from just a wee baby arroyo, watching that arroyo grow and spread until it became The Grand Canyon. It was hard to imagine that one small crevice could become such a spectacular feat of the Pacha Mama.
In truth, the trip was pretty uneventful. We found a nice camping spot where we were able to relax and enjoy the grandeur of the place; and we hiked the rim trail for hours and hours and hours. Like most National Parks, the Grand Canyon is not particularly dog friendly. The only trail that allowed dogs was the rim trail. Happily, there are miles and miles of rim trail and the views are spectacular.
After two days and three nights we packed up and moved on, heading to Tucson and our looming date with destiny, with Nick Cave’s voice running through my brain, as usual.
You leapt into the abyss, but find
It only goes up to your knees
Babe, You Turn Me On
